Welcome to our four-week series on learning to let go of what no longer fuels us or aligns with our purpose.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Are you constantly multitasking, squeezing every moment out of your day? I know I’ve been there more times than I can count.
At 16, I jumped at every opportunity to work—babysitting, receptionist jobs, and full-time dance classes. On the surface, I thought I was thriving, but what I didn’t realize was that I was setting myself up for burnout. Eventually, my nonstop schedule caught up with me. I experienced not only mental exhaustion but also physical burnout, culminating in a serious injury to my L4-L5 disc.
I felt lost—until I met a personal trainer who changed everything. He warned me that if I didn’t change my lifestyle, I’d be in even more pain. He helped me overhaul my diet and workouts, but his most impactful advice wasn’t about exercise or food—it was about rest.
I’ll never forget when he looked me straight in the eye and said, “Aneta, you need to rest.” Of course, I rattled off excuses about why I couldn’t, but he insisted: “Take one day a week to do absolutely nothing—sit at home and watch movies all day.”
Reluctantly, I listened. After just one month of honoring a weekly rest day, I felt more refreshed and energized than I had in years.
This pivotal lesson taught me the power of slowing down, something I discuss in depth on my podcast, Nourished Inside Out. In a recent episode, I had the privilege of interviewing Jaclyn Semlack, who shares her invaluable insights on regulating your nervous system to avoid burnout.
This episode dropped on January 7, 2025, and it’s linked below. Don’t miss it—it’s a game-changer!
